It’s hard to believe that 2013 is nearly over. It’s been a blur for me – how about you? If you’re like most of my clients, you’ve worked incredibly hard growing your business over the past year. You’ve experienced success, and you’ve overcome plenty of adversity. And, if you’re honest, you’d probably admit that you’re tired out!

I know the types of hours that most small business owners work. It’s tough to take much time away from the office when you’ve got customers to serve, products to create, and employees to oversee. I get it – many of my clients are in exactly that situation, and I’ve been there plenty myself.

That’s why I want to urge you to take some time to relax, reflect, and enjoy your friends and family during this holiday season.

The fact is, you function better when you are well rested. Your mind is sharper, your body is more alert, and you are more productive. So consider it an investment into the future of your business.

In addition to spending time with loved ones, here are a couple of suggestions:

1) Read a non-business book. When is the last time you have read a book for pleasure? Now’s your chance!

2) Get active. If you have family and friends in town, or if you’re visiting them elsewhere, what better opportunity could you ask for to get active? Play tennis, basketball, golf, or whatever it is that you enjoy. If nothing else, long walks after dinner are a great opportunity to get your heart rate up while enjoying great conversation.

3) Sleep! I know from firsthand experience how demanding it can be to run your business, and I work closely with plenty of clients who are in the same boat. So take advantage of some time off and catch up on the sleep that your body is craving. It’s amazing how great you feel after a few nights of good sleep in a row.

The holiday season is a busy time of year, but take advantage of the opportunity to get the rest and relaxation you need. Trust me… you’ll be glad that you did!
