Most small business owners are familiar with the feeling of chaos and disorganization in their business. Some have it worse than others—and I’ve worked with clients whose business was so disorganized that it was nearly impossible to tell the floor from the ceiling!

Believe me, I understand that running a small business is demanding. And that there is never enough time in the day to get through your to-do list. But all of that being said, I’ll tell you what I tell my clients… ultimately, you have a choice to make. If your business is chaotic and disorganized, you can do something about it. And below are three key steps in the process.

Make the commitment. It takes a significant effort to take a chaotic business and reorganize it. This is the biggest stumbling block for most business owners. But if you are serious about getting your business under control, you need to commit the time. Trust me, the time and resources you commit will be one of the smartest investments you ever make!

Teach your team. As you begin to get the business under control and develop systems of organization, it is vital that you keep your team in the loop. It’s important first to motivate them and get them to “buy in” to your mission, which shouldn’t be hard considering that no one likes working in a chaotic environment. And then, show them what you’re doing and what you’re changing so that they can support your efforts.

Stop introducing chaos yourself. This is a challenge to say the least—because the truth is that most business owners are themselves responsible for much of the chaos. It’s important that you develop the discipline and the personal organizational skills so that you can be a steadying influence for the business, not a chaotic one. This takes work for many business owners, but again, it is well worth the investment!

Chaos is a destructive force for any business. The good news is that you can do something about it! But if you don’t know where to start, I can help. Please get in touch with me today!
